Zero-Based Budgeting
Without the Pressure
Zero-based budgeting works well for many people. Most apps force it on you. Easymony makes it optional, with gentle nudges instead of hard blocks.
What Is Zero-Based Budgeting?
Zero-based budgeting means you assign every dollar of your income to a specific category. Income minus expenses equals zero. Nothing is left unassigned.
Example: you earn $3,000 this month. You assign $1,000 to rent, $400 to groceries, $200 to transport, $300 to savings, $200 to debt, $100 to entertainment, $200 to insurance, $100 to dining out, $200 to subscriptions, $100 to clothing, $100 to emergency fund, $100 to miscellaneous. Total: $3,000. Zero left over.
The idea is simple: unassigned money tends to disappear. Giving every dollar a job keeps you in control.
The Problem with Most Zero-Based Apps
Apps like YNAB make zero-based budgeting the default and only method. If you do not assign every dollar, the app blocks you or shows persistent warnings. For many people, that rigidity causes them to quit.
Not everyone wants to assign every dollar. Sometimes you just want to track spending. Sometimes you are still learning. Sometimes life is unpredictable and rigid budgets do not work. Easymony respects that.

Gentle Warnings, Never Blocking
If you do not assign all your income, Easymony shows a suggestion — something like 'You have $200 unassigned. Want to assign it?' It never blocks you from using the app.
